Sugamo Jizo Street Shopping Street
Koiwa Temple, famous for its Togenuki Jizo, is located here.
The area around the Sugamo Jizo-dori shopping street, where Koiwaji Temple is located, is known as “Harajuku for grandmothers” and is crowded with many elderly people. Many interviews with the elderly by the Tokyo mass media are conducted here.
The Jizo-dori shopping street is located on the old Chusen-dori road.
Shinsei-ji Temple, located at the entrance to the Jizo-dori shopping street, has a 2.68-meter bronze Jizo Bosatsu seated statue, the fourth of the six Jizo statues in Edo.
The McDonald’s Sugamo branch in the shopping arcade in front of Sugamo Station has silver seats inside. In addition, because there are many elderly people in the area, the menu was once labeled for the elderly. (e.g., Potato -> Oimo, Chicken -> Toriniku, Drink S, M, L -> Drink Small, Medium, Large, Smile -> Smile).
